2010 has been quite a year for Danja fans across the world. We've gotten to hear a lot of Danja tracks old and new, fake and real, Timbo and solo, and it's about that time to reflect on what we've heard. I figure since we've got a little community around here, I'd pose the question, "What Danja track(s) that you've heard this year has (have) surprised you the most?"
Overall sound on the Quincy Jagher tracks (Criminal especially - this was Danja right?) was a pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeleteThe final version of KC's baby (and its difference from the original snippet) was my least favourite surprise. Was surprised that Corte Ellis track (Another Level) wasn't Danja - beautiful song nevertheless.
Getting some more Danja x Menudo collaborations was great.
And the unreleased Madonna Tracks (particularly Accross the Sky and Latte) was a great surprise, brought back the glory days of Danja (for me) of 06-08 and the classic partnership with Timbo
For me, my favourite Danja track of the year so far is probably Idiot Believer (James Fauntleroy). Vibe is beautiful. Closely followed by Travis Garland's Don't Leave Me Rose. Also love Stacy B - Cure. Some great unreleased demos from Ezekiel Lewis and tracks from KC have made this a good year overall for Danja tracks. Seriously, if you think its not been so good, have a look back over all the tracks new/unreleased which have come out this year.
We all know Danja is incredible as a producer, so don't give up hope, he will bring the fire once again, and surprise us once more...
Oh, and the in studio footage of Wyld Money and the Clipse. Nice surprise to see some of my favourite rappers over a Danjahandz beat. Next surprise will be when we finally hear that joint released ;) Really sounded hot...
I would say Menudo - "Save the day",Diddy - "Hello good morning",And KC - "Baby"
ReplyDeleteBecause it's hard to choose one)
And i agree with J-Doug about Wyld and Clipse!
Can't wait to hear this!
To be honest Danja changed my whole life)
After Justin's and Nelly's albums i began to listen to pop music and hip-hop a lot.
Even formed a pop band here in st.petersburg,Russia.
Before that i was a drummer in rock and experimental bands)
And it all started from that "Maneater" beat!=)
My whole life changed after that!
And by the way i'm an admin of Danja and Wyld money community in Vkontakte.ru - russian clone of facebook.
So,from Russia with love!
this year...mmm...definetely
ReplyDelete'hello good morning',but 'yeah yeah you would'...awww man, very sick...very!'latte' is very joyable for my ears.overall this year was intense...in all meanings...but in the end we've got some good tracks)))...and sorry for timbo.danja - 2,timbo - none on the 'last train to paris'.sad, very sad.@dima hit me up with your community page,i'm from estonia
I must say: Travis Garland's "Believe" and "Don't Leave Me Rose".
ReplyDelete"Hello, Goodmorning" is crazy!! Rick Ross's "No. 1" really suprised me. I really didn't think Danja did that one. And then of course "Baby I Like It"....Do i need to say more?
1) Kevin Cossom - Baby (I Like It)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard the snippet, I almost lost my mind! The crazy sounds jumping in and out combined with the sick vinyl slowdowns were too much for me, I had to keep replaying. After about 5 rewinds I finally reached the chorus and almost passed out! :o That hard-hitting synth was balanced out so perfectly by the kick he used, I can't figure out how he managed to get that effect (I've heard it before on various dance songs). And the end of the day, this was a beat you could only expect from Danja. And yet it still surprised me.
2). The second one I'd have to go with is Quincy Jagher as well. Maybe the timing had something to do with it, because prior to this song surfacing it seemed as though Danja was going through a bit of a dry spell. But as soon as I heard the intro play with the electric guitar coming in, I just knew this was gonna be a special one. The whole composition as a whole was just one big eargasm. And Danja really showed off some sickly mixed drums on this one, especially that kick! So powerful and crisp, but at the same time still kind on the ears and not even slightly distorted. Some producers still haven't mastered the ability to mix even half as well and they've been in the game even longer! Although in all fairness they don't have the Incredible Lago by their side :)
I was just thinking about the Wyld Money/Clipse vid the other night, would love to hear the end product of their studio session. Also, what's happening with 11:59? I know good things come to those who wait, but the snippet sounded good enough that we shouldn't have to lol
@J-DOUG Agree with a lot of that especially the Madonna tracks, Wyld Money/The Clipse footage (epic!), demos with Menudo, Claude Kelly and The Clutch/Ezekiel Lewis. To add on the Christina Aguilera (Danja Remix) is dope. James Fauntleroy track is hot for a demo. Christina Milian's 'Virginity' and 'Never Mind' are 2 tracks I need as instrumentals along with Sean Garrett's demo 'Warning.' The other big Timbo/Danja collab is the 50 cent joint 'You Should Be Dead'. Hoping Timbo can add Danja to SV3 this time round.
ReplyDeleteSuprise of the year for me were those unreleased tracks with Mike Walla. Some of them not in HQ, vocals drowned out but you feel the smooth vibe. If anything, this is what R&B is missing these days.
I love the beats on the Calistylz mixtape - Calistylulated The Population in particular.
Least suprising were the Whitney Houston tracks. Doesn't suit Whitney those beats, not that they are bad tracks but not as dope as it could have been.
Best Tracks/Beats:
Yeah Yeah You Would - Diddy-Dirty Money
So Many Girls - Usher
Stay Down - Usher
That I Am - Candice Nelson (One of the big suprises. So DOPE!)
In the Mood - Mike Walla
Across the Sky - Madonna
Drunkin' Love - Kevin Cossom
Hello Goodmorning - Diddy-Dirty Money
Next surprise is Kevin Cossom's upcoming album hopefully in 2011 and new Wyld Money mixtape. I'm hearing big things about these 2 projects! My hope for 2011 is Timbo and Danja working together again.
Also, the beatswitch on Hello Good Morning! I got MAJOR goosebumps from that ish :o
ReplyDeleteYeah Yeah You Would – Diddy-Dirty Money
ReplyDeleteScattin' - Jazmine Sullivan
Just having a look over some of the tracks from 2010, and I'm surprised just how many hot danja tracks there were this year, don't sleep on these tracks:
ReplyDeleteCiara - One More Dance
Kevin Cossom - Press Play & Resume
Nikki 16 - Put It On Me
Keri Hilson - Cut My Hair
Ezekiel Lewis - Surrounded (better than the Menudo version in my opinion)
Cali Stylz - All Over
Cali Stylz - Here We Go Again
Thanks for posting this thread and making me revisit a lot of these tracks :)
Seriously, revisit Quincy Jagher - Criminal (Steal Your Heart) - even better than I remembered
Wow! I'll admit, I had forgotten about some of these tracks you guys have mentioned. Nice to see the outpouring so quickly.
ReplyDeleteNow let me run through my list right quick:
1. Menudo - Save the Day
When Menudo and Danja had that song "More than Words" in 2007, I was hooked on it. But, to hear the remainder of their tracks this year, was a pleasant surprise. Menudo had such powerful songs, both with Danja and other producers, that I do honestly believe they would have changed the industry had they been supported by their label. This was one of those such songs.
2. Usher - So Many Girls
This is one of those songs you have to hear with a crazy sound system. Danja got busy on this track! I had it on repeat for a while, and with good reason. We were suffering through a bit of a Danja drought in late 2009.
3. Ezekiel Zeke Lewis - Surrounded
To hear Danja and a member of the Clutch working together is just the pinnacle of good music. Together, they provide a baseline for what the industry should be striving for in terms of quality. Plus, it felt really good to hear a classic Danja joint.
4. T.I. - Everything On Me
I don't think I've ever had a song on repeat for as many days in a row as this one. The way the horn comes in crazy just speaks to me. The symphony of Danja's structure mixed with the cacophony of the sample just makes me think.
5. Jay Sean - Ghost
I wrote this post while I was listening to "Ghost". I was in denial when this song came out, because I didn't believe Danja could have made it. It sounded so different, but Edwin broke it to me that it was indeed a Danja production. I'm still shocked.
6. Kevin Cossom - Baby
For the same reasons as everyone else!
7. Kevin Cossom - Press Play and Resume
This song made me think, "What is Danja truly capable of?" He and Kevin Cossom haven't used the same sound more than once since I started listening to them in 2007. That's crazy.
8. Claude Kelly & Frankie J - Tears
We had heard a while ago that there were about 50 songs with the "My Love" sound running around, but I finally got to hear this one, I was on the edge of my seat. These are the sounds, I thought, that the Industry keeps taking away from Danja. We don't get to hear his true evolution because of all the songs we're missing due to shelvings and unused tracks!
9. Chrishan - Black Magic
I found it interesting how I was convinced this song was a Danja production. How did Chrishan pull that one off?
OTHER INTERESTING TRACKS
10. Jazmine Sullivan - Scattin'
11. Menudo - Young Lovers
12. Kevin Cossom - Category 5
13. Madonna - Animal
14. Mike Walla - Destroy
15. Christina Aguilera - You Lost Me
all those Mike Walla tracks moved me the most.. i'm really happy that someone still producing hot slow jammy tracks :)
ReplyDelete!!! Christina Milian - "Never Mind" !!!
ReplyDelete...and
Usher - "Stay Down" & "So Many Girls"
Diddy-Dirty Money - "Hello Good Morning" & "Yeah Yeah You Would"
1.) Kevin Cossom - Baby I Like It
ReplyDelete2.) Dirty Money - Yeah Yeah Would
3.) Calistylz - 11:59 (i'm still waiting for this track)
1.) Kevin Cossom - Baby I like it
ReplyDelete2.) Dirty Money - Yeah yeah would
3.) Calistylz - 11:59 (i'm still waiting for this song)
The full 11.59 for sure. Danja is on those vox you know....
ReplyDeleteThe Mike Walla tracks was a real interesting peek into the development of Danjas skills from when he started, and its kinda cool how he kept his favourite sounds and percussions for use today. Unexpected, and literally like 30 tracks all released at once?
The amount of leaked demo's over 2010 was massive as well when you tally it up.
1- Baby I LIke IT KC
ReplyDelete2- Yeah You Would Dirty Money
3- No 1 Rick Ross
4- Idiot believer James fauntleroy
I think that he will be better in 2011 get ready .Danja is one of the best producers of the world and I think that Danja exceeded the level of timbaland and many of the others.
guys I've only just began tuning into this blog and I can't thank y'all enough for this post and the various comments. I've googled about 15 Danja produced joints I didn't have and am really appreciating some of this new (to me) music. I think I have most of the stuff prior to 2010 but was under the assumption there hadn't been much new for a while.
ReplyDeletethanks again :D
Christina millian - virginity....crazy chorus!
ReplyDeleteDiddy dirty money - yeah yeah (you would)....crazy crazy wen the beat drops, love the intro, all signature sounds.
maybe not for everyone but, keri hilsons - cut my hair, stuck out to me because of its vibe. loved that one
AND MIKE WALLAS - UNDER THE MOON!! INCREDIBLE SONG!
well after giving all of the tracks mentioned in the comments a spin i'm really feeeling
ReplyDeleteChristina Milian - Never Mind - wow this screams hit record, awesome
KC - Press Play & Resume - so smooth
KC - Drunkin Love - great 80's vibe. yazoo sample? sexyback part 2 :)
*Across the Sky (the Timbaland remix that leaked first) also was a pleasant surprise. Hell, all the leaks were intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI think the song that touched me the most is the song you did with Brandy... I know it didnt leak yet but judging by what I heard on Brandy & RaY J family business show it sounded CRAZY.
ReplyDeleteI''m a HUGE Kelly Rowland fan, her vocal tone is so BREATHTAKING..
I seriously cant wait for what you have cooked up for her!!!
yes criminal was prod by Danja!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah! Stacy B's "Cure"!
ReplyDeleteHi!
