I remember there was a point in time when I'd complain that we NEVER had an opportunity to hear Candice do her solo thing on any Danja productions. Well, family, that day has come, and here we have not one, but TWO Candice and Danja songs! One is the demo for Ciara's "Echo", and the other is all-new! It's called "That I Am", and I must say it's hot! Check 'em out and let us know what you think.

that second song is demo too?
ReplyDeleteNearly every song Candice records is a demo, pretty much.
ReplyDeleteThe second song, it's offkey.
ReplyDeleteI won't accept the second track as a danja track.
If it is, how is it even possible that Danja did not catch the offkey note?
Nothing is offkey, the synth has a minor percentage of detune to it (like most synths similar to it) but the alternate chord progression prob throws you off more
ReplyDeleteThe creativity of that beat is sick! Love it
That's funny... if Danja didn't produce it, then who did?
ReplyDeleteAnd, it's not like the man hasn't made minor sonic "errors" before. Listen to Cali Stylz' "When the Bottles Pop".
@Frederick: What exactly is the "error" you speak of on that song? Short of needing a cleaner mix, I can't really hear anything wrong with the beat itself.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the second one - very creative! And I expect nothing less from Danja. *goes off on a search for the download link*
the second song is bananas!!! damn Danja
ReplyDeleteIt's just strange that there is an offkey note in there, part of the topline synth that plays throughout.
ReplyDeleteCan you link me to that song? I can't seem to find it on google.
Either way, there is something upsetting about the second track.

I agree with the offkey comments with regard to the second song, sometimes Danja changes the key in his productions but this doesn't fit at all. It's not even a matter of analog drift on his synth. Its a shame as the synth patch is crazy; probably off an Alesis Andromeda.
ReplyDeleteOh, and also...I wish the "Echo" mix wasn't distorted trash, because that's a cool song.
ReplyDeletelol, there's nothing offkey there. Man, people are not used to hearing anything interesting. What DOESN'T work sometimes here is the vocal melody Candice is laying over it. With more care, it would sound easier on the ear, but I like it anyway...
ReplyDeleteListen to more classical music and you'll hear things like this all over the place, just with better, more educated melodies. Most R&B singers nowadays don't have a clue, and kind of just sing whatever melodies because they can't hear well enough, or because they just want to do intervals of fourths constantly and call it a melody.
ive listened to it over n over again, i cant hear nooo off note, only thing that might sound a bit different is the reverb overlapping the next notes
ReplyDeleteY'all are wierd. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the melody on that second track. Honestly if you're freaked out by those chords, then I feel sorry for you lol :P
ReplyDeleteI can understand that there are several key reasons why it would not be off key, but there is a whimsical chance that this song is off key, it may possibly be the delay over the course of the previous notes which collide into the upcoming notes, in this case, the second chord, the bassline may be what is throwing me off. Although I understand sometimes music is approached in this manner, but I do know what sounds correct, and what does not. In this case, whatever Danja was attempting to pull off had little delivery and did not work for me.
ReplyDeleteThis may be a delusive false note, just the delay recurring over the next synth notes.
Believe me, I've heard my share of classical quartets, symphonies, ballads, I've even reproduced them for my own purposes.
I'll conclude that the second track was a production error, especially since this is almost definitely a demo.
it sounds like the second track is a demo for Brandy's new project cuz u know Brandy is tryna do the whole sing/rap thing and she just said on her new episode shes gon work with danja and she worked with candice 4 afrodisiac so i wouldnt b surprised if this is for Brandy. it would b a good look 4 her bcuz the song is cool and the rap flows. lets keep our fingers crossed cuz u kno brandy would murder this track.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not a production error.
ReplyDeletehonestly, the off key-ness actually gives it that weird outstanding and ecletic sound
